2003 Air Show Highlights
  • Lloyd and Charlotte Smith, formally opened the show and represented all parents in an address of respect to all families who have lost sons while serving their country.
  • The parents of two of Canada's, four PPCLI soldiers who died in Afghanistan, were in attendance to accept the Tribute extended to their sons. Lloyd & Charlotte Smith of Nova Scotia (parents of Pte. Nathan Smith) and Richard & Claire Leger of Ottawa (parents of Sgt. Marc Leger) attended the 2003 show. The parents of Cpl. Ainsworth Dyer and Pte. Richard Green could not attend.
  • Special salute to the Veterans of the Korean War - receiving the salute on their behalf was Sgt. Jim McKinney (Ret.).
  • Law Enforcement "Plane Pull" raised approx. $25,000, a part of the combined total of over $45,000 raised by several Charities and community groups at the Air Show, making the total to date of approx. $250,000.00 raised for charity since the Show began.
  • Considering the abnormally hot weather (above 40C) that affected the attendance, approx. 24,300 people attended / 32% from beyond 80 km. The projected attendance for the 2004 show is in excess of 34,000.
  • 2003 economic impact approx. $1.8M / over $21M to date
