2002 Air Show Highlights
  • Brigadier General Ivan Fenton, Land Forces Western Region, formally opened the show and represented the Canadian Armed Forces in an address of respect to the families; a special ceremonial parachute jump & presentation from four PPCLI troops who served with the fallen, was a highlight for the families.
  • Soil from Ground Zero was spread over Saskatchewan soil in a commemorative and ceremonial Bond of Remembrance for the families of those whose lives were lost in the tragedy of Sept. 11th; Aspecial message from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was read to the crowd.
  • Special guests - parents of Canada's four PPCLI soldiers who died in Afghanistan, were in attendance to accept the Tribute extended to their sons:
    • Lloyd & Charlotte Smith of Nova Scotia (parents of Pte. Nathan Smith)
    • Richard & Claire Leger of Ottawa (parents of Sgt. Marc Leger)
    • Paul Dyer of Toronto & Agatha Dyer of Montreal (father and mother of Cpl. Ainsworth Dyer)
    • Doreen Coolan & Michael McDonald of Nova Scotia (mother and friend of Pte. Richard Green)

    NOTE: Appreciation to Air Canada and the Saskatoon Inn for assisting in this exclusive Canadian Tribute.

  • Saskatchewan Police, Firefighters & EMT Services were saluted within the ceremony.
  • We were the site of 2002 Canadian Fighter Pilots Assoc. Reunion (WWII & Korea War).
  • Approx. 34,300 people attended / 32% from beyond 80 km.
  • 2002 economic impact approx. $2.5 - $3M.
